FAQ
Here are a few frequently asked questions, especially for new parents.

What can we expect to achieve from dance classes?
This depends on your child or teen's interest level and how long they choose to train for.  Some of our students go on to full time dance courses or tertiary studies in the area of dance education.  While others prefer to work as commercial dancers or audition for dance companies.  Most students will simply enjoy the physical and emotional benefits of dance alongside friends for many years.  Which ever path your child takes we hope to develop a life long love of dance and it’s many benefits.

Do you have a  “Show Troupe” for competitions?
Dance competitions can become expensive and time consuming for parents. Schools that have Show Troupes are required to select the best technical dancers to compete which can make other students feel under-valued.  Our school’s inclusive nature combined with the professional theatre performances and/or dance film productions provide a more positive experience for all students at the school.

Does my child need to do ballet exams?
Ballet examinations are not required to achieve an excellent standard of technical ability.  Classical Ballet at our studio is taught in conjunction with the related style of Contemporary Dance.  This combination provides broader training for our dancers as they benefit from the solid foundation of ballet alongside the expressive, artistic style of Contemporary Dance.

Does my child have to perform in the Annual Performance?
The Annual Performance is not a compulsory event for every student however it is encouraged as students prepare for this together as a group.  We see the performance as a wonderful learning experience for first timers and seasoned performers alike.
Our Annual Performances are well organised, day time events in a professional theatres.  No additional rehearsals are required as everything happens on the day including a fun backstage photo shoot for students and the presentation of our PASA Scholarship Awards.
In 2020, Momentum Dance Studios will produce a dance film rather than a live performance to ensure we meet COVID Safe regulations for our students, staff and community.
